For too long, the tech industry has systematically temped-out and subcontracted work to keep our wages low, our jobs temporary and our voices on mute. It’s time we DELETE their operating system and RESTART with the rights and fairness that all tech workers deserve.
Temping-out jobs in the tech industry depresses wages and degrades working conditions, strips workers of rights and benefits, increases their vulnerability to discrimination or harassment, and locks them into a system of permanent temporary work. Corporate employers like Google, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook are hiding behind temp agencies and subcontractors to escape their obligations.
PRELIMINARY REPORT FINDINGS
* 95% of temps in tech do some of the same work as direct employees, at lower pay.
* 77% have been on the job for more than a year.
* 70% were misled about basic terms of their employment; a majority were misled about being converted to a permanent position.
* 44% experienced discrimination, sexual harassment, or wage theft (unpaid hours or overtime violations), with complaints ignored.
